HEADSTONE INSCRIPTION:

BASELE BAKER, / DIED / AUG. 23, 1883, / AE. 85 Ys. //

WIFE: Marguerite Lacroix

SON: Roswell Baker, husband of Modeste Richer

SOURCES:

McLellan Cemetery Records - NOTE: This record also says Margaret's maiden name was RICHARDS, but Virginia Easley Demarce (a researcher in migration studies,) stated in her correspondence with Van Watts,(author of the Watts Bicentennial Encyclopedia,) that she believes this maiden name is incorrect. Here is what she said... "Bazile Belanger, whose burial record at St. Joseph's in Cooperville kindly told us the names of his parents and that he was born in the parish of Varennes in Canada. I tracked back to Varennes; got his marriage to Marguerite Lacroix. The parenthetical notes on the Trombly's Bay Cemetery are wrong when they say his wife's maiden name was Richards. At the bottom of the same page, "Roswell" Baker is an anglicized version of Basile Jr., and Basile's Jr's wife was Modeste Richer -- I have seen the marriage at St. Joseph's in Cooperville. This was a large family group."
