|Birth: ||Jun. 4, 1865|
|Death: ||Oct. 15, 1945|
NANCY WAS THE DAUGHTER OF STEPHEN WEST MATLOCK AND ELIZABETH ADAMS MATLOCK. SHE HAD 12 BROTHERS AND SISTERS.
THE FAMILY MOVED FROM PHELPS CO., MISSOURI WHERE SHE WAS BORN TO WRIGHT CO., MISSOURI. THERE SHE MET AND MARRIED MY GRANDFATHER, JOHN STEPHEN WAITE HUMPHREY Sr. ON APRIL 13, 1884.JOHN WAS FROM GREENBRIER CO., WEST VIRGINIA, BUT HIS FAMILY HAD MOVED TO MISSOURI IN 1879.
JOHN AND NANCY HAD 12 CHILDREN, ONE OF WHICH, WAS MY FATHER JOHN WAITE HUMPHREY, Jr. Nancy left MISSOURI in 1890 and came with her family to Abilene, TEXAS. She liked to tell of coming to TEXAS via covered wagon and mules. She worked very hard and stayed very busy at being a mother and grandmother. Next to the children, her favorite activities were visiting friends and relatives, planting and enjoying her flowers, especially larkspurs, and taking care of her large flock of chickens. She made really tasty beans and biscuits which was a staple during the Depression.
Nancy was a kind and loving, and loved mother and grandmother!! ! I(Ron) remember speaking with her the afternoon before she died of a heart attack she had suffered two weeks previous. All they had in those days, 1945, for treatment was an oxygen tent to help breathing and morphine to help pain.
