Lige enjoyed collecting rocks, finding and keeping some amazing specimens. He worked for the railroad and was a kind hearted father to his children.
The family enjoyed loading an old covered wagon and traveling around Texas as we do today with RVs.
One time they roasted an armadillo (long before PETA) just to taste it. The entire camp (Lige had a large family, and brought along different Bell cousins on these adventures) tasted the critter, with Lige finishing the meat off. For many hours he played like the armadillo was trying to "scratch it's way out" of his belly, and around the campfire he played, grabbing one kid or another when the 'dillo spirit was on him.
Lige was a master carpenter. He taught his children the craft, and his daughter Josephine excelled at it.
