James E. Corrigan, Jr., was the son of James E. Corrigan, Sr. and Leath Russell and the husband of 1) Hellen Dickson (div. 1879), and 2) Emma Carnes. Soon after his birth his family moved to Portage County, Wisconsin. He received his early education at the famous Old White School in Stevens Point, WI. He married his first wife in Portage County and had one child, Walter. After his divorce in 1879 he moved to Hico, Texas. He became a teacher at Hico High School. He married second to Emma Carnes. Then he went into partnership with Charles Dionysus McKinley to run a general store named 'McKinley Corrigan Company.' Corrigan became a successful merchant. He also was a long-time member of Woodmen of the World, a fraternal organization that also operated a life insurance company. Corrigan served as a Texas district representative for the organization. He retained an interest in his Wisconsin roots. In the summer of 1908 he travelled from Texas to Wisconsin to attend the reunion of the Old White School. In 'The Gazette,' Stevens Point, WI, p. 1, it was reported that at the school reunion as part of a toast James E. Corrigan said, "I believe there is no town today in any part of the great United States or I might say the entire world with the same population where you will find the degree of culture and refinement as is evidenced in this gathering tonight and presents itself to the world as results from education and influences from Stevens Point."
While visiting Wisconsin James met with his relatives, including his son, Walter D. Corrigan, Sr.
