Patrick passed away at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. He was a lifelong resident of his beloved Galveston Island. Whatever Patrick did he put his heart into it, from his time with the undefeated Red Sox, minor league city champions, through his bull-riding exploits, to his appearance as part of the top receiver corps in the state of Texas with the Ball High School Tors in the state quarter-finals. From fishing with Coach Stigs to picking on his guitar, to his passion for four-wheeling and water/snow skiing, to just hanging out with friends, Patrick lived life to the fullest. Slow to anger and quick to praise, his trademark statement was, "You're the best." Upon graduating in 1996, Patrick attended Southern Arkansas University on a football scholarship, thanks to George Liberato. After a career-ending injury, Patrick transferred to Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, and graduated with a degree in Construction Management. Ignoring the odds, Patrick opened the doors to Patrick Dye Construction for business in 2003. You see, the odds makers could not have known or considered Patrick's honesty, conscientious attention to detail, and genuine service-minded attitude that endeared him to all his clients. When friends are asked to describe Patrick each has a different case to state. "He was like my brother; he was my hero". All who speak of Patrick witness to his silent strength, his consistent optimism. Never one to complain, Patrick Dye sincerely received pleasure in giving, understanding fully that the first would be last and the last would be first.
Funeral services were held at First Lutheran Church, Galveston, with the Rev. Gerald Westerbuhr officiating and the Rev. Doug Gauthier co-officiating. Patrick was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lillian and Robbie Schaper and his uncles, Bobby Schaper and Bobby Dye.
Patrick is survived by his wife Katie; parents Pat and Liz Dye; sister Dana Chadwick and husband Reggie, sister Heather Dye and friend Kyle Manary. Survivors also include his niece Brianna Chadwick and nephew Landon Chadwick, paternal grandparents C. V. Dye, maternal uncle Ronny Schaper and wife Cindy, maternal aunt Johnnie Sue Schaper, paternal uncles Roddy Dye and wife Nell, Timmy Dye, paternal aunt Sharon "Doubie" Dye, plus numerous cousins.
Pallbearers were Brandon Backe, Phil Brown, Ben Dye, Glen foreman, Kyle Manary and Jake Schaper. Honorary pallbearers included cousins and friends, to numerous to mention individually. Special thanks to Rick and Debbie Kershaw, Diane and Ryanne Duzich, Judy Turnbow, Mike Greenly and Glen Foreman.
Patrick was the center of gravity for his family, and for all of us he left the memory of his sheer will to never, ever give in.
