George Franklin Baleme, 74, a resident of Merced all his life until moving to Modest 10 years ago, died yesterday in a local hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Merced and was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors are his widow, Salley Baleme; a daughter, Marian Ingle of Atwater; a son, Robert D. Baleme of Carson City, Nev.; a step-son, Derwyn Christensen of Olympia, Wash.; four sisters, Loretta Berry of Livermore, Estelle Ellis of San Francisco, Em Adams and Louise Furtado, both of Merced; three brothers, John Baleme of Merced, Walter Baleme of Fresno and Fred Baleme of Hemet; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Merced Cemetery.
