Death: Aug. 13, 1953

Alex B Estock, 69, of 408 S Sterling St, a prominent figure in the business life of the community for a half century, & one of Streator's most widely known citizens died at 7:10am today at St Mary's hospital, where he had been a pt only 3 days. He had been in failing health for 3 yrs. The passing of Mr Estock creates another void in the thinning ranks of those linked to the business life of the community at the turn of the century. He will be remembered by many for his association with the Heenan store, where for 13 yrs he was mgr of the men's clothing dept. He later embarked in business for himself, operating men's clothing stores at various locations in the downtown district, the last in the 100 block of E Main St, just prior to his retirement abt 10 yrs ago. He was a director of the Peoples Building & Loan Association, a former member of the Kiwanis club, & a charter member of the local chapter of Izaak Walton League. His favorite sport was fishing, a pastime to which he devoted almost every spare moment. He is survived by his wife, Amee Bertiaux, to whom he was married 4/2/1907, at Monticello, IL, & 1 daughter Mrs. W. B. Horne of Tallahassee, FL. There are 5 grandchildren. A son preceded him in death. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Able Levey of San Francisco, CA. The son of Andrew & Susan Estock, he was born 9/15/1883, in Old No. 3 (South Streator), & had spent his entire life in this community. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. Sun at the Wagner funeral home, with burial following in Riverview cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2pm Sat.
