Son of James E. Shaw Sr. and Millie (Forquer) Shaw
He grew up on a Farm in Pennsyivania, where he met his future wife. He married Thelma (Shade) on April 20, 1940.
James came to Elkhart in 1947 to help open and airplane factory. He previously worked in New York for Dart and then for Pipper Cub. He worked at Federal Paper in Elkhart formerly American Coating Mill and Continental Can Company for 30years. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart and Loyal order of the Moose #836 of Goshen. He repaired TV's and enjoyed making crafts and selling them in flee markets. He also raised Birds, such as African Grays, and sold them to martins feed store, Elkhart among other places. He had Koi fish and fishing was his favorite pastime, as well as hunting in his younger years. He loved to spend time with his family.
