David J. Gift
David J. Gift died at his home in Quincy, Saturday morning at 11:45 o'clock from the effects of a paralytic stroke, aged 67 years, 9 months and 6 days.
He sustained the stroke on the evening before, while at the supper table and remained unconscious until his death. Previous to this he had been enjoying his usual good health.
He was one of Quincy's good citizens, and for years was a foreman in the Frick shops, later being employed by the Quincy engine Co. He was a life-long member of the Lutheran church, Quincy.
Surviving are his wife, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Duey, and these children: Upton V. Gift, Waynesboro; Charles S. Gift, south of Waynesboro; Albert Gift, in the west; Maurice Gift and Mrs. D. G. Friedly, both of Quincy; and these brothers and sisters: Jeremiah Gift, Upton; Hiram Gift, residing near Chambersburg; Mrs. Luther Miles and Mrs. Harvey Heefner, both of Waynesboro.
Funeral services Tuesday at 1 pm at his late home.

David J. Gift-Well Known Citizen of Quincy Is Dead
Mechanic of Much More Than Ordinary Ability--Life-long Member of Lutheran Church of His Town
David J. Gift, aged 67 years
David J. Gift died at his home in Quincy, Saturday morning at 11:45 o'clock, from the effects of a paralytic stroke, aged 6 years, 9 months and 6 days.
He sustained the stroke on the evening before, while at the supper table and remained unconscious until his death. Previous to this he had been enjoying his usual good health.
He was born in Quincy township, November 26, 1848, the son of George and Mary (Knepper) Gift.
David J. Gift had been a resident of Quincy for many years and was one of the town's most progressive citizens. He was a mechanic by trade and served as foreman in the blacksmith department of Frick Co. shops for a number of years. Several years ago he resigned that position to accept employment with the Quincy Engine Co. He was a genius along mechanical lines and was considered a valued employee by the companies employing him.
He was a life-long member of the Lutheran church, Quincy.
Surviving are his widow, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Duey, Quincy, and these children: Upton V. Gift, Fairview Avenue, Waynesboro; Chas. S, Gift, south of Waynesboro; Albert Gift, in the west; Maurice Gift and Mrs. D. G. Friedly, both of Quincy; and these brothers and sisters: Jeremiah Gift, Upton; Hiram Gift, residing near Chambersburg; Mrs. Luther Mills and Mrs. Harvey Heefner, both of Waynesboro.
Funeral services, Tuesday 1 pm at his late home, conducted by Rev. H. F. Coffelt. Interment in Burns Hill Cemetery.
