Son of Dirk de Bruijn and Aagtje Lindhout. Dirk was born about 1808 in Barendrecht, Zeeland, Netherlands.

Funeral services for Abraham DeBruyn, Sr., eighty-one years of age, who died at his home 835 Leonard street, N.E., Wednesday after having been a resident of Grand Rapids nearly fifty years, will be held at the residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will be made in Fairplains cemetery. Mr. De Bruyn came to this city from the Netherlands in 1868. He was born in the village of Oud Vossemeer, province of Zeeland, in 1835 and married Jacoba Kryger there in 1862. His death terminates a happy married life of fifty-four years. Since 1882 he lived in the house where he died. and followed the occupation of gardener.
Besides his widow Mr. De Bruyn is survived by three sons, Dick, Chris, and Abraham Jr., of this city and three daughters, Mrs. John Bosman of Overisel, Mich., and Mrs. Cornelius Karelse and Mrs. Dennis Kosten both of Grand Rapids.
Abraham DeBuin, age 33 yrs., appears as a passenger on the ship Louisiana, along with his infant son, Cornelius DeBruin, and his father-in-law Christopher Krijger, age 57. Also sailing is C. Krijger age 28, and Cornelius Krijger age 22. The ship left Liverpool, England, and landed in New York City, May 5, 1868. Abraham is listed as a laborer from the Netherlands. His death record indicates he died of senility.
In the 1902 Grand Rapids City directory, Abraham Sr. is listed as a gardener and that he resides at 507 Leonard St NE. Also at this address is Abraham Jr. who is listed as a machine handler, and Christopher who also follows the same occupation as his brother.
