Coachmaker, realtor, inventor, author. Born at Dorchester, Suffolk Co., Massachusetts. Son of Ezra Badlam & Mary Lovis. Married ca. 1833, near Saco, York Co., Maine. Mary Ann Brannan, sister of Samuel Brannan California's first millionaire. Father-in-law of Joseph Webb Winans. Was one of the pioneer settlers of Lake Co.,OH and CA. Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834. Appointed to the First Quorum of Seventy, 28 February 1835. Ordained an elder and a seventy, 1 Mar. 1835. Lived at Daviess Co. and Caldwell Co., Missouri. Member Missouri high council, Aug. 1835. Fled Missouri to Illinois, 1839. Resided in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1842. Presided over Boston branch of the Church, 1846-1848. Migrated to Utah, 1850. Mission to California, 1852; studying Chinese in Sacramento, 1853-1855. President of Sixth Quorum of Seventy. By 1872 he had left the Mormon Church. Moved to Sacramento, by 1860. Moved to Hot Springs Township (area of present-day Calistoga and St. Helena), Napa Co., California, by 1870. Moved to San Francisco, by 1880. Died at San Francisco.
Removed from Winans Vault Calistoga, Napa Co. CA, re-interred Wed, June 11, 1913 in the St. Helena Cemetery.
