She married Charles Hammond on September 15, 1951 and they moved to Bettendorf, Iowa. She had two sons, Bruce Wayne, born December 14, 1953 and Brian Charles, born June 13, 1956.
Her husband Charles died April 14, 1961 and she moved to Davenport, Iowa. She remarried on May 15, 1968 to Virgil Johnson and moved to his family farm in Osco, Illinois. Upon Virgil's retirement they moved to a home in Geneseo, Illinois.
Her son Brian Hammond died in 2011. She is survived by her son Bruce Hammond of Weston, Florida and brother Richard Franing of Moline, Illinois.
