Dick grew to manhood at Elk Creek and early in life became an important part of his community, standing for every worthwhile advancement.
He was united to Bessie Jane Evans on Sept. 11, 1910, and of this union there were three children; one son and two daughters. Dick knew all the people of his community and could not be happy when others were in need, so he helped, more than most, to supply the needs of others. For many things he did, he received only the reward of a good conscience.
He made his decision for Christ almost nine years ago and united with the Cabool Baptist Church where he remained faithful. He was baptized Oct. 3, 1948, by his good friend and then pastor of the church, Orville Haines.
He leaves behind Bessie, his companion of almost 47 years. There were two daughters, Pauline Skirvin of Elk Creek and Edna Young of Mtn. Grove and one son, Paul, of Cabool as well as seven grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and indeed a multitude of friends.
Services were conducted by Mrs. Sadie Miles and Rev. Verdaine Gibson with burial in the Cabool Cemetery, Cabool, Mo. Pallbearers were Max Forsythe, Ray Forsythe, Wayne Grisham, Raymond Grisham, Austin Grisham and Fred Evans.
