OBITUARY OF MARTHA CHRISTIAN HUMBER BICKERSTAFF
Mrs. M.C. Bickerstaff has passed away....A telegram received in the city last night told of the death of Mrs. Martha C. Bickerstaff, which occurred at nine o'clock last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.A. Mitchell, at Hurtsboro, Alabama. She was in her 83rd year, and death was due to beneral debility, brought on by her advanced age. She had been critically ill for a number of days.
Mrs. Bickerstaff was one of the oldest residents and most prominent and highly beloved ladies of Russell County, and hundreds of hearts will be saddened at the news of her death. She had lived in Russell County for perhaps 50 years. Her husband, William Jefferson Bickerstaff, gave his life to his country while bravely fighting under the Stars and Bars at Murfreesborough.
Mrs. Bickerstaff's home was at Seale, but the past few years of her life were spent with her son, Mr. W.J. Bickerstaff, at Brickyard, Alabama. She was on a visit to her daughter at Hurtsboro when seized with the illness which proved to be fatal.
