GRAFTON - Robert "Hillbilly" Edward Baber Sr., 63, died Dec. 29, 1997. A native of Nelson County, he had been a Peninsula resident most of his life. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and had retired as owner and operator of Tabb Auto Repair. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Baber was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary Amerson and Jesse D. Baber; and two brothers, Austin and Sam Baber. He is survived by his wife, Amy Jamerson Baber; two daughters, Carla B. Sparks of Danville and Kimberly A. Mangrum of Staunton; three sons, Robert "Rabbit" E. Baber Jr. of Grafton, Anthony "Tony" D. Baber of Newport News and Christopher B. Baber of Texas; three sisters, Virginia Wade and Ruby Raines of Waynesboro and Ann Patterson of Georgia; three brothers, Charles, Henry and Kenneth Baber, all of Charlottesville; five grandchildren; mother-in-law, Jeannie Astleford, and her husband, John; father-in-law, Billie Jamerson; and one sister-in-law, Gina Mann.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at 5 p.m. at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, with the Rev. Ken Coleman officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 2, at 2 p.m. in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.
