Hugh Odell Buttram, age 85, passed away last Sunday night, May 22, 2011, after sustaining injuries from the tornado that struck Joplin, Mo., that evening.
Interment in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Odell, as he was known by friends and family, was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Hillsboro.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a chaplain's assistant in the U.S. Armed Forces.
He subsequently received his bachelor's degree from Southwestern University in Waxahachie and did graduate studies in marketing at Texas Wesleyan University and Texas Christian University.
He was an accomplished salesman receiving many significant sales awards in more than 50 years of his insurance career.
Odell was a devout Christian and lifelong member of Bethel Temple Assembly of God in Fort Worth. His family and friends are comforted in knowing he is with the Lord and they will see him again. He was much loved and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Buttram of Joplin, Mo.; daughters, Judith Rylee, and husband, Tom Rylee, of Springfield, Mo., Lisa Satterfield and her husband, the Rev. Dallas Satterfield, of Baxter Springs, Kan., and Cathy Buttram of Joplin, Mo.; siblings, James Buttram and wife, Lou, Sims Buttram and wife, Fern; five grandchildren, Meredith Cunningham, Shannon Hachman and husband, Chris Hachman, Paige Giarrizzo and husband, David Giarrizzo, Morgan Satterfield, and Drew Satterfield; and great-grandson, Dominic Ochoa.
