Birth: Aug. 6, 1926
Death: Jan. 8, 2006

William F. "Bill" Goetz of Ballinger passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, in the Ballinger Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Williamson County, near Taylor, to Otto and Augusta Goetz. The family moved to Rowena when Bill was a child, and he attended school in Ballinger and graduated from Ballinger High School.

He joined the United States Navy, where he served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married Bobbie Jean Bell in 1946. After he served his country, he returned to Rowena to farm and work.

Making their life in Runnels County, they later moved to Ballinger and opened a small grocery store on Strong Avenue and, later, built Bill's Superette on Hutchings Avenue. William, Bobbie and their children kept the store in operation for over 40 years, serving their friends and the families of Runnels County. Bill was very active in the civic community and served in city government for over 20 years as city councilman and mayor. He was always willing to help anyone in anyway possible.

Bill Goetz is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bobbie of Ballinger; daughter Deborah Evans of Abilene; son Michael Goetz of Ballinger; four wonderful grandchildren, Jason Goetz of San Angelo, Shauna Yeager of Ozona, Bridget Goetz of Ballinger and Brandon Goetz of Abilene; and numerous nieces, nephews and the many, many friends that he made during his lifetime. Bill is also survived by his brother, Clarence Goetz of Rowena.

Two other brothers, Herbert and Herman, preceded him in death. A son, Gary Lynn Goetz, also preceded him in death in 1993.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Chamness officiating. Burial will be in the Old Runnels Cemetery.

Bill will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him, especially his close friend, Clarence Hallmark.
