Hamp was born on Feb. 12, 1957, to W.J. "Dub" and Wanda McDaniel Byler. His mother preceded him in death in 1980.
He grew up loving airplanes and began his career in the crop dusting business in his teens with Mid Middleton and later with Joe Freeman. He received his commercial license at an early age and worked as a pilot all his life. He soon had his own airplane and began his own business locally and throughout the state. Recently, he had been fighting forest fires for the U.S. Forestry Service and most recently spraying foliage in the country of Columbia for East Incorporated.
Hamp is survived by his sons, Kasey, Jett and Kennedy; his father, Dub and his wife, Linda Byler, of Ballinger; and his brothers, Will Byler and his wife, Karen, of Ballinger and Wagner Byler of San Saba. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends also survive.
