On 6 Apr 1776 he was commissioned a captain of a company in the Pennsylvania Rifle regiment, commanded by Colonel Samuel Miles. Resigned his commission due to ill health on 14 Oct 1776. Appointed a Justice of the Peace, Courts of Common Pleas of Bucks in 1779. In 1781 he owned 200 acres in Warrington Township. His homestead is said to have been used as a hospital for the Continental Army.
