Winnifred I. Carnicom, 88, a devoted community volunteer and care-giver, passed from this life at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria, where she was a resident.
She was born May 18, 1917 on the family farm in Cygnet to the late Howard Dwight and Dolla Louise (Sweebe) Whitacre. She married Truman Edward "June" Carnicom, Jr. on May 25, 1938 in Bowling Green, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1978.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Sharon) Hegele, Minneapolis, Minn. and Sandy Tredente, Grand Rapids, Mich; two grandchildren, Steven Hegele, Shore View, Minn. and Beth Berg, Rogers, Minn.; and five great grandchildren, Emily and Kate Berg and John, Jessica and William Hegele. Three brothers, Wayne, Donald and D.L. Whitacre, and four sisters, Geraldine Loraine, Betty Fogle, Roberta Boxley and Marilyn Taberski, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Carnicom was a homemaker and had been employed for 15 years as a Secretary at Fostoria Concrete Products. She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church, Fostoria, where she had been active throught the years as a pianist and organist, signing in the choir and with the Christian Women's Fellowship.
A 1935 graduate of Liberty High School, Rudolph, Winnie found great joy in volunteering and made it her goal to serve people.
Since 1962, she committed many hours to the Fostoria Community Hospital Auxillary, often as a receptionist and in the flower and gift shop. She also volunteered at the gift shop of the Good Shephard Home and with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile. Winnie was a member of Order of the Eastern Star #94, Job's Daughters, Kings Daughters, and the Fostoria Business and Professional Women, where she was named Woman of the Year.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2006 in the First Christian Church with Pastor Gene Crutsinger officiating. Burial will follow in Wingston Cemetery near Rudolph. Friends are invited to visit on Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, where Eastern Star memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
