Mary had two children by her first marriage to Thomas Lawson Scott: Mary Agnes and Barbara Ellen. She and Thomas had emigrated to America in 1868, and Thomas died the next year.
Patrick and Mary resided in Winona the rest of their lives. Patrick worked as a saloon keeper, and then worked as the Bridge-Tender of the High Wagon Bridge which spanned the Mississippi River, joining Minnesota to Wisconsin.
Patrick and Mary had four children:Joseph, James, Catherine and Lulu Leon.
Patrick contracted stomach cancer, and died in 1911. Mary wasn't far behind him, dying in 1912.
Patrick's monument shows he was a member of the "Woodmen OF The World", a fraternal organization founded in 1890. It was committed to helping families seeking financial security and insurance protection. "W.O.W." was the first fraternal benefit society in the United States. The inscription "Dum Tacet Clamat" translates as "Though silent he speaks".
