DEATH OF MRS. BOWLES SADDENS ALL:
It is our sad duty this week to record the death of Mrs. Vera Mae Bowles which occurred in this city Saturday morning after an illness of only a week's duration. She was first stricken with influenza which soon developed into pneumonia -- and everything within the power of human hands was done to save her life, but without avail.
Deceased is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.M.C. Hughes and was born at Hall, Montana August 3, 1891, being 27 years, three months and 7 days old.
She is survived by her husband and two children, Maxine and Bernard. Her mother, who is spending the winter at Los Angeles, was unable to come home owing to severe illness which would not permit her to travel. The death of this most popular young matron has saddened the entire community and it is fitting at this time to pay a tribute to the memory of one whose life was marked by a personality that endeared her to all.
She was a most devoted daughter, wife and mother. The short span of years she has spent with us has made an indelible impression that will ever influence the lives of those of her friends in future. As a friend she was ever true and constant and as a neighbor she has ever been a comfort and inspiration. Her sweet character and lovable ways drew legion friends around her and every person in Granite county will mourn the loss of this splendid woman.
Her death calls vividly to mind that upon every one of the stroke has fallen without sufficient warning to prepare us for the irreparable loss and it makes it more difficult for us to make the next step in this uncertain life. To the grief stricken husband, children and family is extended the deepest solicitations of all.
The services were held at the family residence at Hall Wednesday morning at 10:00 o'clock and a large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the remains to their last resting place in the New Chicago Cemetery [This cemetery is known now as Valley Cemetery].
