Birth: Sep. 13, 1927
Death: Sep. 5, 2007

Richard Burns Richard Burns passed on Sept. 5, 2007, after a long fight with a terminal illness. Richard was born to Vyvian Peacock Burns and Virginia "Bell" Nelson-Burns in Bingham County, Utah on Sept. 13, 1927. He was the oldest of four children and spent his formative years in Mount Pleasant, Utah. At the first opportunity, Richard joined the U.S. Army and served his country from Nov. 1945 through May 1947. Thereafter, he returned to his family in Burley, Idaho, where he met Veronica Irene Budrewicz, a native New Yorker, then working in Idaho. Richard and Veronica were married in Burley on Sept. 24, 1948, a marriage that would last nearly 60 years. The Burns couple remained in Idaho for the balance of their careers and had three sons between 1949 and 1956. Richard followed his grandfather and his great-grandfather into law enforcement where he became a patrolman with the Idaho State Police (ISP) in 1955. Richard served the ISP in several locations around Idaho, including nearly ten years in Twin Falls County. Richard and Veronica moved their family to Boise, Idaho in 1966, when Richard was promoted by the ISP to work in Idaho's Criminal Identification Bureau (CIB). He worked tirelessly to help transition the CIB into the information age and to digitize fingerprints and other data. Richard became the CIB Bureau Chief in 1974 and served in various capacities for several national organizations such as ILETS, NLETS and NCIC. It was during this time that Richard attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. He also had the privilege of serving on the security detail for multiple Presidential visits to the State of Idaho. During his working years, Richard was active in the Masonic Temple and the El Korah Shrine organization. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW. Richard retired from state service in 1983 and spent perhaps another ten years working for First Security Bank in the security division. Richard is survived by his wife, Veronica and his three sons, Richard (Margaret), Jack, and Jim (Joie) Burns of Boise. He is also survived by brothers Jack (Erma) Redd in Bountiful, Utah and Bill (Virginia) Redd in Blanding, Utah, as well as sisters Elizabeth (Tom) Coleman of Auburn, Calif., Virginia (James) Fox of Rupert, Idaho, and Grace Jensen of Burley, Idaho, granddaughters Jessica and Jennifer, great-granddaughter Ashlen, and numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and the many people who loved him.
