Barbara went by her middle name, Elizabeth. Elizabeth descends from early Ramsour and Hedick settlers in Lincoln County, NC. Dietrich Ramseur arrived in Lincoln Co. area in 1753 from Lancaster, PA. Barbara Ramsour, Dietrich's granddaughter, married Jonas Hedick whose father was born in Lincoln Co. in 1738.

Elizabeth's sister, Sarah A. Hedick, married Joshua Stafford, Jr. and is buried in the Mitchell Cemetery, Bellview, Curry Co., New Mexico. Joshua died in Ardmore, Oklahoma.

Elizabeth and William Thomas Collier were married 5 April 1849 in Lincoln Co., North Carolina. The 1850 US Census for Lincoln Co., NC, shows the two families living next door to one another. At that time, husband William was a mill wright.

All four of Elizabeth's brothers, William J., David Lamar, James Melvill, and Franklin Monroe, served in the Confederacy during the Civil War. Brother William J. died 26 Aug. 1861.
