Prior to her marriage Eveline worked in a Candy Store in St. Louis where she met her future mother-in-law.
A story often repeated by several of her children was the she along with most of the other mothers in the neighborhood would sit at the front windows of their homes which in her case was over the Hogan Brothers Saloon on Jefferson & Cass Ave. and watch the gun battles between the various Irish mobs during prohibition. Fortunately none were ever shot.
Later in life her one passion was to watch the "Soaps" and eat Ice Bars. You soon knew to never call her on the phone while the Soaps were one she would ignore the phone. The only thing that interrupted this was her shopping sprees to downtown St. Louis. It seems she changed all her furniture every 5 or 6 years, out with the old in with the new.
