IMMIGRATION: 5 Nov 1839, Bremen Seaport, Germany to Port of New Orleans, LA. 27 Jan 1840 to Daminansville, Clinton Co., Illinois in 1840.

"John H. Rensing, forty years a resident of this vicinity, died at 3:30 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Feld, 1001 South Forest Ave. (Chanute). The funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock Thursday morning in St. Patrick's church. They will be conducted by the pastor Rev. Father John J. MacInteney.

"Mr. Rensing was 87 years old, having been born July 15, 1833 in the Kingdom of Hanover, His parents immigrated to this country when he was 3 years old and settled in Illinois where he was reared and where sixty one years ago he married Mary Heidemann, who died in 1874. Later he married Lena Stoelzing, and a few years afterward came to Kansas with his family, settling six miles east of this city in 1880 and engaging successfully in farming. His second wife died three years ago this month.

"He was the father of fifteen children, of whom twelve are living. To him and his first wife were born five sons and two daughters, Herman of Belleville, IL, Henry of Las Vegas, N.M., Louis of Pittsburg, Kans., and Joseph and Theodore of this city; Mrs. Lizzie Fehr, who lives nine miles east and Mrs. Katie Feld of this city.

"He and his second wife were the parents of eight children, five sons and three daughters. Of the sons, George, Francis and Paul are dead. Paul dying in infancy. Those surviving are William of this city and Julius who lives on the homestead, six miles east; Mrs. Mary Hosack of this city, and Mrs. Lena Cheek and Anna Treloggon of Dewey, Okla.

"Mr. Rensing was a good citizen and did much toward promoting the development of the neighborhood where he settled laboring with other pioneers to bring the prairie under cultivation and to make the land a place where a good home could be maintained."
