Funeral Is Held For Ben Ballard
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock for Ben Ballard, 72, of 107 East F St., who died at his home yesterday at 5 a.m. after a long illness.
Mr. Ballard, a retired carpenter, came to Anniston from Georgia and lived here for 35 years. He was a member of the Carpenter Memorial Methodist Church, serving on the board of trustees and stewards.
Funeral services were conducted from the Carpenter Memorial Church at Forestlawn Gardens, with the Revs. G. C. Gorley and G. L. Armstrong officiating.
Active pallbearers were his nephews. The Men's Bible Class and the board of trustees and stewards of the Carpenter Memorial Church also served. Among those serving were: Arthur Ellenburg, George Rutledge, Neal Williams, Sr., James Cason, H. T. Mive, D. A. McKay, S. E. Boozer, Mark Pettus, H. L. Whiteside, and T. W. Collier.
Mr. Ballard is survived by his widow, Mary Ballard; four sons, and two daughters. The sons are: J. D., Harry, E. G., and D. A. Ballard, all of Anniston. The daughters are Mrs. W. B. Bunn of Anniston, and Mrs. T. A. Howle of Gadsden. There are also 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
