Julia Ann Rebecca (Baldwin) Beeson 1864-1955

Julia Ann Rebecca Baldwin was born January 20, 1864 near Waverly, Illinois to Thomas Jackson Baldwin and Sarah Jane (Wood) Baldwin.

Her siblings include; Mary Jane (Baldwin) Stubblefield, Nancy Ellen Baldwin, Thomas James "Jim" Baldwin, Isaac Henry "Hank" Baldwin, Jeremiah Washington Baldwin, John Allen Baldwin, Celia Elizabeth "Betty" (Baldwin) Simmons, Robert Stratton Baldwin, Charles Jackson Baldwin, Sarah Frances "Frankie" (Baldwin) Draper, William Fleming Baldwin and Lillie Priscilla (Baldwin) Bare.

She moved with her family from Illinois to Missouri when she was four years old. She and her sister, Frances, came to La Grande by train in 1893. They traveled on to Elgin on a small train and there, were met by a relative with whom they made the remainder of the trip by wagon to Enterprise, Oregon. There they joined other members of their family who had cpme across the plains a few years prior.

She married Moses Harrison Beeson on August 14, 1893 in Wallowa, Oregon. Her first home was on Swamp Creek in Wallowa county, where her husband was in the sheep raising business with Aaron Wade.

They became the parents to five children; Harry Corbin Beeson, Mary Jane (Beeson) Barnes, Thomas Ellis Beeson, James Irvin Beeson, Sarah Bessie May (Beeson) Marquis.

In 1895 Julia and her family made a trip to Missouri in a covered wagon and from there they returned to Colfax, Washington where they lived for six years. They returned to Wallowa county and lived many years around Enterprise and Joseph and about 1924 they moved to La Grande, Oregon and purchased a home in May Park.

Her son, Harry Corbin Beeson, was killed in 1918 during World War I in France and in 1930 Julia made a trip to France with the Gold Star Mothers pilgrimage, to visit her son's grave.

After the death of her husband, Julia made her home with her daughter, Bessie.

In 1954, Julia celebrated her 90th birthday with an "Open House" fro relatives and friends at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Marquis in La Grande, Oregon.

Julia passed away February 16, 1955 in La Grande, Oregon and was laid t rest in the Island City Cemetery next to her husband.
