HAROLD RICHARD (DICK) MEARS, age 82,
of Litchfield, Twp., Sayre, PA, formerly of Hatfield Twp. passed away Monday February 16, 2009. He had been failing in health the last several years from stroke complications. Doris and Dick were married April 2, 1949. His wife Doris predeceased him in 2007. Born in Worcester, Montgomery Co., he was the son of the late Violet (nee Rosenberger), (b)1899 and William Mears Jr., (b)1895.

Dick lived most of his life on the family farm in Hatfield. He had worked for the former North Penn Hide, then the former Lansdale Transportation Company and finished his truck driving career with Evans Trucking in Pottsville. He and Doris retired to Litchfield Twp. in 1989. His primary passion was farming. Dick and his family worked the farm on Elroy Road for over fifty years, raising beef cattle and other animals, growing and selling vegetables and attending many field crops. He had a vegetable stand at the farm, and in the 1960's one was located on Route 309 in Montgomeryville. He was always ready to help others whether it was fellow farmers, or assisting a friend in need.

He was proceeded in death by his sister Verna Lindner and brother Bill Mears. He will be sorely missed by daughter Linda and husband Scott Becker of Schnecksville, son Dennis and wife Pam Mears of Damascus, MD., grandchildren Matt Becker, Kelly and Greg Mears. Dick is survived by his brother Albert of Horsham, sister Evie and husband Wally Hendricks of Harleysville, sister Clara and husband JAKE FEUSNER of Litchfield Twp., and many other family members.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 1-2 PM on Sunday February 22, 2009 at the E. Lowery Funeral Home, 225 S. Main Street, Athens, PA. A memorial service will follow with the Rev. Jon Austin from the Litchfield United Methodist Church Officiating. On Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at 12 PM services and internment will be at Immanuel Leidy's Church, 276 West Cherry Lane, Souderton, PA. Burial will be in Leidy's Cemetery.
