|Birth: ||May, 1848|
|Death: ||Nov. 22, 1888|
Born in New York City, William M. Hart was the second youngest of the five children of firefighter Elijah Hart (1817-1907) and Margaret Stanton Hart (1811-1887). The family moved to Chicago in 1850, where Elijah joined the city's first professional fire department.
We know very little about William, except that he worked as a shipping clerk in Chicago and lived with his parents. We do not know if he married. He was too young to have served during the Civil War.
William is buried with his parents and a number of other family members; his grave is one of only two in the family plot that bears a marker.
