John Edward Abel 93, of Pekin passed away on Wednesday May 6, 2009 at his residence.

He was born in Pekin on May 23, 1915, the son of George and Elizabeth Graber Able. He married Mary Jane Aimone in Pekin on November 11, 1948.

She survives along with his daughter Maria Dena (Stephen) Rankin, brother Erven G. Abel and his nephew who was named after him John Abel all of Pekin. Also surviving are his great and great great nephews and two great nieces.

His parents and his sister preceded him in death.

John served as a Combat Engineer in the Army during WWII and worked for Otto Baum as a Brick Mason, retiring in 1980. He also was a Farmer for 10 years and a member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers local #18, the Knights of Columbus #3507, the Pekin Elks Lodge and was a collector of Antiques and loved flowers and animals.

John also was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin with Military Rites by the United States Army.
