"MRS. LIDA L. BROWN. – Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Lida Brown who died at the age of 84 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henderson McGibney, on West Main street, at 8:30 o'clock Wednesday evening.
She was the daughter of Washington and Miranda Scott Steenrod; born in the town of Wirt, in 1855. Lida L. Steenrod attended the Friendship Academy and studied voice in the old Baxter University of Music in Friendship. In 1874 she was married to M. Fillmore Brown, a resident of Cuba, and the young couple moved to Sedgwick county, Kansas, where they were among the earliest settlers. They took up their residence in Wichita until 1890 when they returned to Friendship. Mr. Brown died in 1908.
Mrs. Brown was active in many organizations; among them the Universalist church of Friendship, the Eastern Star of Westerville and the Woman's Benevolent association of Belmont.
The only survivors are her daughter, Mrs. McGibeny, a granddaughter, Doris M. Stewart of Niagara Falls, and two nephews in California.
Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. McGibeny, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. E. H. Bottoms officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove cemetery.
Bearers were H. C. Almy, James Greer, Clyde Weatherby, Wm. Davis, Sr., Leon McGibeny and George M. Coon.
