KEARNEY - Robert L. Hammond, 89, of Kearney died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with the Rev. Joe Hannappel officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial of cremains will be later at Broken Bow Catholic Cemetery. O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Mason City to William and Agnes (Davolt) Hammond.
On Feb. 22, 1947, he married LaRue Hauck in Mason City.
Survivors include his wife; sons, James and his wife, Judy, of Litchfield and Edward and his wife, Deborah, of Riverdale; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Marvin and his wife, Pearl, of Pennsylvania, Earl and his wife, Beverly, of Biloxi, Miss., Larry and his wife, Marlis, of Carmel, Ind., and Bill of Ceresco; sister, Angenette Adams-Denisa and her husband, Don, of Broken Bow; sister-in-law, Joan Hammond of Houston; and brother-in-law, Bruce Evans of Florida.
He attended school in Berwyn and graduated in 1941. He and LaRue farmed in Custer County. He also was a crop adjuster and sold Pioneer Seed for 27 years. They moved to Kearney in 1984.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a tinkerer and enjoyed fixing things. He enjoyed the time spent in his garden and doing yard work.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven; daughter, Trudy Day; grandson, Brian Hammond; brothers, Jack and Leonard; sister, Alnetta Evans; and sister-in-law, Kay Hammond.
