Properly named the University of Manitoba Medical Memorial, this memorial was suggested by a branch of the University that benefits from bodies donated for scientific purposes. It was designed by Wayne Larsen, a local memorial expert, who, with the Department of Mathematics, came up with the unique shape, which is now called the Larsen Heptahedron; it is metaphorically seven-sided (sides, top and bottom representing the seven days of the week), leans forward and the five angles never reach the same point. It is made from 35000 pounds of Quebec granite. There is an annual ceremony at the site at the end of the academic year.
