Mahala Jane Worthington was the daughter of Rev. Edward (Ned) Worthington and Elizabeth Wayland. She was married to William Nichols, an immigrant from Scotland, in Chambersburg, Clark Co., Missouri, May 22, 1838. He died 4 months after their marriage. She bore him a daughter, Willie Ann Nichols, January 13, 1839, Chambersburg, Clark Co., Missouri, who married William H. Whaley, November 1, 1859. Mahala Jane died in the home of Willie Ann Whaley at Spalding, Ralls County, MO.

She had four children by John Shearer Bush, Sr.:
[1]Dr. Franklin Worthington Bush, October 24, 1850 at Bush homestead, Miller Township, Marion Co., Missouri.
[2]Charles Edward Bush, December 11, 1853.
[3]Laura Belle Bush, January 13, 1856 at Bush homestead, Miller Township, Marion Co., Missouri.
[4]Rosie May Bush, April 29, 1860 at Bush homestead, Miller Township, Marion Co., Missouri.
