Jacob died of the Ague or Fever in 1834 just 15 days prior to the death of his son James who also died from the Fever.... Mr. Jacob Armitage owned and operated a Ferry Boat service on the Scioto River. He transported Franklinton and Columbus residents back and forth across the river prior to the Broad Street Bridge being constructed by Lucas Sullivant, the Founder of Franklinton.
