BALDWIN CITY --- Mabel Irene Cowart, 74, Baldwin City, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at a Baldwin nursing home.

She was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Lone Rock, Ark., to William H. Lane and Bertha A. Havner. She grew up in Baxter County, Arkansas, and attended Pleasant Room School near NorFork, Ark. She moved to Baldwin City in 1952.

Mrs. Cowart was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 0228.

She married William Cowart on Nov. 17, 1945, in Cotter, Ark. He survives.

Survivors also include two daughters, Judy Morris, Baldwin City, and Robin Clevenger, Lawrence; a son, Keith Cowart, Baldwin City; two brothers, Dean Lane, Lindale, Texas, and Junior Lane, Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Jewel McNeil, Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Cowart.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Baldwin City. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City. Mrs. Cowart will lie in state after 11 a.m. today at the funeral home, where visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until service time.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Baldwin Care Center, sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, P.O. Box 64, Baldwin City, 66006.
