Death: Sep. 9, 1999

Cathy was a lifelong lover of people. She was always looking for ways to care for those around her, and would seek out others that needed comfort and help. She was a great mother to five of the most darling daughters, and was always teaching them skills they would need in their adult lives. She also kept her husband, Paul, under control, making sure he was a 'good boy', and not getting into trouble with his antics and practical jokes, but she wasn't always successful. Still, she loved him in spite of his ways. Cathy and her husband entered The Salvation Army School for Officers' Training at Rancho Palos Verdes, CA in Sep 1986 and were commissioned Lieutenants of the Messengers of Joy session Jun 1988, as ordained ministers of the Gospel. She was able to continue caring for others throughout her ministry, even after resigning her commission in 1990. The two of them returned to the ministry in 1993, opening up a Salvation Army church in Woodburn, OR, which immediately became a hispanic church, which was amazing for the Basso's as neither one of them spoke Spanish. In 1994, they were given the responsibilty and honor to open up a Salvation Army church in Dallas, OR, which gave them many rewards and joy. In Sep 1996, Cathy was diagnosed with breast cancer, for which she underwent a modified radical mastectomy and treatment for a year. After a transfer to the Roseburg Salvation Army church, she was rediagnosed with breast cancer (Sep 1998). She fought valiantly for a year before being called home to be with her Lord, Jesus. Her promotion to glory was a difficult time for the family, but because of her guidance and training, things got back on track after a period of grief. We know that she's in Heaven preparing the mansion for Paul and her, and that it will include plenty of craft creations she was so well known for. Honey, you're greatly missed, but our love still continues for you. Rest well in the Lord's arms. Aloha nui loa!!!
