His memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Friday Nov. 30, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church, 262 N. Third Street, Lander. Cremation has taken place, and he will be buried at Mount Hope Cemetery.

John was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Sheridan, Wyo., to St. Elmo Cooper and Rolene Fulmer Cooper.

He attended school in Sheridan until 1936 when he moved to Lander and lived at the Wyoming State Training School. John worked at the Lander Community Swimming Pool and at Judd's Grub for many years until his retirement. He was a Lander Pioneer Days Parade Marshall and a true Lander ambassador. John was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Lander and faithfully folded the bulletins for the church services every Sunday.

John had a daily routine where he started his morning with coffee at Child Development Services at about 7:30 a.m. He would then catch the senior bus to the center and watch the pool players and have lunch. He would then walk to the Bread Board for coffee and then on to the Maverick Restaurant, Mr. D's, Judd's, Arctic Circle, Dr. Weideman's office, Simply Shoes, Main Street Books, Wildwood, Gannett Grill, Oxbow, McDonald's and then home. He would sit on the benches on Main Street waving and saying hello to passersby. Before moving to Westward Heights, John lived at the Pushroot apartments and was a kind and helpful neighbor, even taking out the trash for two friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and old sister Rosabella Cooper Leistra. John is survived by his niece and her husband, Don and Nancy Crigler of Bend, Ore., and his many friends in Lander.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church youth group or the Fremont County Pioneer Association. John will be greatly missed by the whole community.
