Evelyn Masden Jones, 90, of Hendersonville and beloved wife of Dr. George A. Jones, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at her residence.
A native of Shepherdsville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Effie Cundiff Masden.

A graduate of Northern Kentucky State University, she was an elementary school teacher, a reading tutor and a kindergarten director. Devoted to the Lord and His kingdom, she was active in mission work at home and overseas. With her husband, she ministered to churches in Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Berlin, Germany.

She was always interested in history and was a founding member and long-time president of the Henderson County Genealogical and Historical Society. A gifted writer, she wrote for the Women's Missionary Union and the Baptist Sunday School Board. In addition, she edited Volume I of the Henderson County Heritage and the Society newsletter for many years.

A woman of deep faith who acted upon her principles, she was the first white teacher to teach in the formerly all black, Robert Smalls Elementary School in Beaufort, SC. During her husband's pastorate in Beaufort, SC, she spearheaded an effort to organize social and missionary services for the county's migrant workers. Since their retirement to Hendersonville in 1985, she has taught the Joy Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church Hendersonville.

Celebrating and remembering her life are her dearly loved husband of nearly 67 years, Dr. George A.
