Mary E. Alford, 101, a resident of Cleveland, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday afternoon, September 06, 2012. She was a member of Chestuee United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert W. Alford; her parents, W.J. and Molly Reynolds Gatlin; one daughter, Betty Alford; two sons, Gene Alford and Glenn Alford; one sister and four brothers.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Alford of Charleston; six granddaughters: Teresa Yates of Benton, Donna Hall and husband, Dale of Delano, Majorie Alford of Cleveland, Karen Mooneyham and husband Brian of McDonald, Marsa Garner and husband, Tracy of Georgetown and Jenny Alford of Nashville; eight great-grandchildren: Megan Strawbridge, Sara Mooneyham-Cross, Deidra Hall, Elliott Yates, Houston Mooneyham, Delaney Hall, Daley Hall and Daniel Hall; several nieces and nephews also survive; special caregiver, Pat Ogles of Charleston.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Chestuee Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Elliott Yates, Houston Mooneyham, Daniel Hall, Brian Mooneyham, Dale Hall, Tracy Garner and Nick Cross will serve as pallbearers.
