During Helen's childhood, the family made their home on several farms north and west of Funk. She received her primary education from District #6 north of Funk in Phelps County and then graduated through the tenth grade from the Funk Public School. On July 20, 1936, Helen was united in marriage to Joseph Ephraim Anderson in Belleville, Kansas and to this union two sons were born: Jesse and Leonard. Helen and Joe resided on the Anderson family farm west of Funk, which has been in the family the past 102 years and were honored with the Ak-Sar-Ben Pioneer Award. In 1961, the couple moved into Funk. On December 4, 1968, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Joe. Helen was employed as the bookkeeper for The Funk Telephone Co. for many years. In August of 2001 she made her home at the Holdrege Memorial Homes, where she resided until her passing.
Helen was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church, where she was baptized as an adult. For many years she served her church folding bulletins, kept attendance and sent church bulletins to those who were absent from church. Through the years, Helen also enjoyed many friendship bonds that were formed in the women's organization of the church and her membership of the Neighborhood Birthday Club.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jesse on March 18, 2008; granddaughter, Kimberly (Anderson) Guilford; great-grandson, Jason Stroup and siblings: Orville, Harold, Lawrence, Rowena, Elizabeth in infancy and Carroll.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Leonard Anderson and his wife, Gwen of Funk; daughter-in-law, Iola Anderson of Funk; six grandchildren: Debra Wagner and her husband, Mike of Eagle, Nebraska, Diane Rager and her husband, Alan of Holdrege, Donna Goldsberry and her husband, Tim of Lincoln, Nebraska, Douglas Anderson and his wife, Carma of Funk, Brian Anderson and his wife, Cindy of Manhattan, Kansas and Greg Anderson and his wife, Kim of Holdrege; grandson-in-law, Bob Guilford and his wife, Holly of Howell, Michigan; twenty great-grandchildren: Makaela Wagner, Patrick Wagner and wife, Katie and Todd Wagner, Nicole Eddins and husband, Justin, Chris Rager, Stephanie Kolbo and husband, Ryan, Kristin Goldsberry, Shana, Tiffany and Jacob Anderson, Emily, Matt, Hannah, Kayla, Rebecca and Blake Guilford; Drew, Philip, Maddie and Sam Anderson; two great-great grandchildren: Sophia Kolbo and Hailee Wagner and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
