Treva Lyons Barber, 93, of Dobson, took her heavenly flight to her eternal home on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 17, 1916, in Wilkes County to Joe and Alice Lyons. She worked on the farm and in the garden and was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting and picking blackberries. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She loved her children and was there when they needed her. Even after she became ill, she still wanted to take care of them. They will cherish her always.

She loved the Lord and was a member of Charity United Methodist Church in Wilkes County. Before she became ill, she was attending Redeeming Grace Baptist Church in Siloam.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Grover Barber; one son, Ardis Barber; one daughter, Kathleen Barber; and three sisters, Lilly Lyons Smith of Wilkes County, Fannie Lyons Cockerham of East Bend and Wessie Lyons Curry of Traphill.

Surviving are one son, Jack (Becky) Barber of Dobson; three daughters, Amygeane Barber (James) Macemore of Winston-Salem, Frankie Barber (Ervin) Odum of Dobson and Wanda Barber Lineberry of Dobson; three sisters, Vergie Lyons Swaim of Jonesville, Mary Lyons Luffman of High Point and Estelle Lyons (Homer) Collins of Wilkes County; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Betty Patton and Evelyn Dinkins.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Redeeming Grace Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Island Ford Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Junior Wall conducting the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Her body will remain at Moody-Davis until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the services.

The family would like to express its sincere thanks for the wonderful care given to their mother during her illness by the late Jane Pruitt, Kathy Swaim of Senior Services, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
