Little is known of Christian, at this time. Some facts about his family have come about. He was the first American born child of his family. His great grandfather was a fairly famous potter back in Switzerland. His own father could do the work too, but listed himself as a "brickmaker," on his immigration papers. His father became a vintner in the US, and the dates of land acquisition could mean that Christian grew up on what was nominally a vineyard. But, alcohol laws in the South eventually led to the murder of his father, and injuries to his mother. Christian was older at that time, married and living in the same town. Shortly after his mother's somewhat young death, Christian named his new daughter after his beloved mother. His family was religiously "Reformed Swiss," but upon marrying a Catholic, it appears that the children were raised as Catholics.
