Birth: Jun. 11, 1827
Death: Sep. 3, 1902

British colonial governer and politician. The third son of the 5th Earl of Mayo, he was educated at Hall Place School in Bexley, Kent and Trinity College, Dublin, before pursuing a career as a barrister, being called to the bar in 1852. In 1868, he was elected Conservative Member of Parliament for King's Lynn (1868-1886) and Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs under Benjamin Disraeli (1874-1880). In 1880, he became Privy Councillor and was appointed Governor of Madras, where he did much to improve relations with the people, improve sanitary conditions and railway communications during this appointment. In 1886, he was created 1st Barom Connemara, of Connemara in the County of Galway, Ireland. His career was cut short by divorce proceedings in 1890 between himself and the daughter of Sir James Ramsey, Marquess of Dalhousie.

Plot: Marble Celtic cross on a pillared base with a sculpture in relief. Although he is deposited there, his name is not recorded on the monument, which is located to the east of the path.
