BROWN, Helen L. (Jarbeau) (Age 97)

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (G-G-Ma) passed away at Gentle Hands, An Adult Family Home on July 3, 2008. She had been a resident of Kennewick and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for over 15 years. Helen was the youngest child born to Ellen (Teabeau) and Leon Jarbeau. She and her husband, Clifford C. Brown, lived in Spokane for over 80 years before moving to Kennewick, where their daughter and son-in-law reside. Helen and Cliff were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spokane and have one daughter, Barbara (Bobbie) Joy, who is married to F. Duane Hobbs of Kennewick. Helen attended Willard Grade School before moving to Four Lakes, WA, where she completed the eighth grade. Until she married, she took care of mothers and newborns in their homes. She took care of small children during the war years up until the '50s. Although she didn't have a formal education, she was blessed with being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She had "common sense," which showed many people the path to follow. She had a quiet demeanor but was always a good friend and good sport. Helen enjoyed dancing, baseball, gardening, pinochle, fishing and RVing with her family. She loved vacationing in Hawaii and Arizona. She always put family first, and that is why she had such loving devoted grandchildren. Helen appreciated all the blessings the Lord bestowed on her, and we in turn feel blessed for having her. Helen is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Bobbie) J. Hobbs and her husband, Duane Hobbs of Kennewick; four grandchildren, Lindy Styer and husband, Willy of Kent, WA, Cindy Omlin and husband, John of Spokane, WA, Scott Hobbs and wife, Patty, of Renton, WA, Andy Hobbs and wife, Channa of Kennewick, WA; nine great-grandchildren, Eric and Kelsey Omlin, Scott Styer, Kenny and Nathan Hobbs, Alec, Caleb, Ceci and Addi Hobbs; special friend, Father John Birk and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Brown; parents, Ellen and Leon Jarbeau; and all her siblings, Eva May Jarbeau, Erma Neis, Harold Jarbeau, Dorothy Hueter and Ray Jarbeau. All services will be held in Spokane, WA. Visitation will be at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with Rosary to be held at 7:00 PM. The funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 2:00 PM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 505 W. St. Thomas More Way. Reverend John Birk will be officiating with Deacon Roy Dahl assisting. Luncheon reception will be held immediately following the service. Private entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorials be made in Helen's name to St. Joseph's Building Fund, 502 W. Garfield, Kennewick, WA 99337. Please sign the online guestbook at . Arrangements entrusted to Hennessey Smith Funeral Home & Crematory Spokane, Washington.
