Icie Lilly Reed-Burke
was born on August 11, 1914 and went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2008.
Mrs. Burke was a member of Midway Baptist Church in New Tazewell where she attended faithfully as long as her health permitted. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and she will be remembered as a Christian whose faith never wavered even in the face of adversity. She was truthful and steadfast in everything that she did.
Mrs. Burke was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit Number 0109, and a member of the New Tazewell Chapter of the order of Eastern Star, Number 232.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years,
Ira James Burke;
her father and mother,
Elisha and Effie Spradlin Reed;
brothers, Herman Reed and Clyde Reed;
a sister, Iva Dell Reed Phillips;
special friends, Lizzy Neely and Louella Williams.
Survivors include: son, Carl E. Burke and wife Pat Burke of Greeneville, Tennessee; daughter, Madeline Burke Cardwell and husband Arville of Knoxville, Tennessee; and son, Dwain G. Burke and wife Martha of Maynardville, Tennessee; grandchildren: Sandra Cardwell Campbell and husband Wes of Maryville, Tennessee, Scott Cardwell and wife Monica of Boston, Massachusetts, Jennifer Burke of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Holly Burke Still and husband Mike of Jesup, Georgia; great grandchildren: Khorey and Chase Schmutlzer and Averi, Arden and Kerry Still of Jesup, Georgia; brother, James E. Reed and wife Lucille of Springfield, Ohio; special niece, Ruth Mountain; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Ethel Davis and Edith Richardson.
The family would like to extend special thanks to caregivers Kathy Dalton, Sue James, Virginia Milligan, and Wanda Nunn.
Mrs. Burke set a fine Christian example while she lived and leaves a legacy of strong Christian values. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Building Fund of Midway Baptist Church, New Tazewell, TN 37825.
Pallbearers: grandsons and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers: Steve Bollinger, Hollis Cole, Bill Frazier, Norris Keck, O.D. Johnson, Clay Neely, Bob Sharp, Don Smith, George Walker, Jim Welch, and Deacons of Midway Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 PM Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Midway Baptist Church in New Tazewell, TN. Eastern Star #232 will render their services at 7:30 PM. Funeral service will follow at 8:00 PM at Midway Baptist Church with Reverend Ronnie Pressnell and Reverend Eddie Overholt officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 AM Friday, February 15, 2008 at Claiborne Funeral Home and proceed to Fairview Cemetery for 11:30 AM graveside services. Claiborne Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
