Well Known Citizen Passes Away At His Home in Spring St.
Last Evening

Xavier Besanceney, a well known and highly esteemed citizen of Piqua, died at 7:15 o'clock last evening at his home, number 429 Spring street. He had been gradually failing in health for about two years while his last illness was of about two weeks.
Xavier Besanceney was a native of France. He was born June 25, 1838. When a boy of fourteen he came to the United States in company with friends of his parents, who followed a year later.
For twenty -five years he lived at Muskegon, Mich., and three years at Ashland Wis., prior to coming to Piqua some ten years ago. During the entire period of his residence here, up to his sickness compelled him to give up his active work, he was in the employ of one firm, the Orr Felt & Blanket company. Contracting rheumatism he was compelled to retire and never since been able to do any heavy labor. Mr. Besanceney was a quiet, unassuming man, kindly disposed, a good husband, a kind and ever indulgent father, a model neighbor and citizen.
While a resident of Mukegon, Mich., he became a charter member of Banner lodge No. 430, I.O.O.F. He never transfered his membership from that lodge. He also became a member of the Knights of the Macabees at Muskegon, also retaining his membership in that tent after his removal to Piqua.
Mr. Besanceney was married twenty -five years ago to Miss Catherine Hauck in this city. She survives him with two children, Miss Eielen Besanceney and Raymond X. Besanceney. There are ling also to mourn with them one brother and four sisters. They are August Besanceney, Mrs. Sophia Racine, Mrs. William Graef of Piqua, Mrs. Harry Higbee of Asbury Park, N.J., and Mrs. Charles Guillaume of Brookside, Pa.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his home in Spring street. The services will in charge of the Odd Fellows, who will conduct their ritualistic services at the graveside in Forest Hill cemetery.
