Gordon Almgren, 75 of Poplar Bluff, MO, died on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Mr. Almgren was born on Sept. 11, 1934, in Jamestown, NY. He worked as a salesman for Keebler, was a veteran of the U.S Navy and served in the Korean War.
He and his wife moved to Poplar Bluff 13 years ago from western New York. He was a member and Sunday school supervisor at Kerns Chapel. He enjoyed riding with the Cardiac Cowboys, gardening, and fishing.
On July 3, 1992, he married Kathleen Peterson in Bemus Point, NY, she survives. Other survivors include three sons: Don Almgren of St. Louis, MO, Raymond Almgren of Witchita, KS, and Tim Sikora of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Kathy Smith of Bradenton, FL; one sister, Joan Shranko of Prescott, AZ; five grandchildren: Quentin, Shane, Samantha, and Trenton Almgren, and Amber Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Quentin and Jenny Almgren; one brother, James Almgren; and one sister, Beverly Dunn.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Kerns Chapel in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Eldon Wheelis officiating. Memorials can be made to the Animal Welfare Alliance, 910 N. Westwood Blvd., Poplar Bluff, MO 63901.
Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff is in charge of arrangements.
