ALBION -- Arno Milo Jensen, 81, of Albion died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at BryanLGH East in Lincoln.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with the Rev. Larry Sydow officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 736 of Albion.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Mr. Jensen was born March 12, 1920, at Bancroft, Idaho, to Christian M. and Thora (Rasmussen) Jensen. At the age of 3, he moved with the family to south of St. Edward where he attended rural Boone and Nance county Schools. He graduated from St. Edward High School in 1937. Following graduation, he was a truck driver until entering the U.S. Army on June 5, 1942, where he served as a heavy automotive equipment operator in central Europe.
He married Margaret B. Willard on Dec. 30, 1942, in Columbus. Following his discharge from the service on Dec. 31, 1945, they lived west of St. Edward and later northeast of St. Edward on Roy Cumming's farm. They then moved into St. Edward, where he and Evan Draeger operated the Mobile Service Station. In 1948, they moved to the George P. Willard farm south of Albion where he farmed, sold Trojan seed and did custom hay baling. In the spring of 1966, they moved into Albion and he began working at the Taylor 66 Service Station in Albion. He was a dispatcher for the Boone County Sheriff's Department from early 1981 until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of the St. Edward Crosier American Legion Post 226 and later the Albion American Legion Post 162 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 736. He served on Boone County District 74 School Board and worked security at the Boone County Fair for many years.
He enjoyed pitching horseshoes and bowling.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Alice (Jerry) Dawson of Hyannis, Anita (Gary) Bartak of Madison and Mary Derby of Albion; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl Jensen of Fairbault, Minn.; three sisters, Wanda Svatora of Albion, Ruth (Carl) Kroegh of O'Neill and Ula (Rodney) Jacobson of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister-in-law, Iva Jensen; and one brother-in-law, Robert Svatora.
